Scott Burkhart, Psy.D. - Clinical Director

Dr. Scott Burkhart is a licensed neuropsychologist, fellowship trained in concussion assessment, treatment, and management.  Dr. Burkhart completed a 2-year neuropsychology fellowship under Dr. Michael “Micky” Collins at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, PA.  Since 2000, UPMC has been an international leader in the management, treatment, and research of sports related concussions.  UPMC was the first center of its kind when it opened its doors and is renowned for pioneering ImPACT and delivering personalized concussion treatment.  Dr. Burkhart is currently the only neuropsychologist in the southeastern states who has completed fellowship training specifically in concussion treatment and management.  He is recognized as an expert in the field of concussion management by professional organizations, collegiate institutions, and local/regional youth sports programs.  Dr. Burkhart is the Clinical Director of The Concussion Center at TOC.  Dr. Burkhart continues to pursue research intended to improve the treatment and management of concussive injuries.

Daniel Petty, PT, DPT - Vestibular Therapist

Dr. Daniel Petty is a physical therapist, specializing in the rehabilitation of concussion and vestibular disorders. Dr. Petty brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to The Concussion Center, with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Florida State University, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Florida A&M University, and a Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency from Emory University. Daniel also has certifications in Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion Management from the American Institute of Balance. Dr. Petty has recently started research on managment of certain vestibular disorders.

Jenni Puhr, MHA, ATC, LAT - Clinical Coordinator

Jenni Puhr is a certified athletic trainer and the Clinical Coordinator for The Concussion Center at TOC.  Prior to joining The Concussion Center, Ms. Puhr worked at multiple NCAA Division 1 athletics programs in the Southeast including the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of North Florida, and Auburn University.  Most recently, Ms. Puhr served as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Tulane University, one of only six medical centers across the nation selected to be part of the NFL's Neurological Care Program for retired players.  Her experience as an athletic trainer includes providing medical care for several sports that are at an increased risk of head injuries including pole vault, diving, soccer, basketball, and football.  She is an ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainer (ITAT) and has been involved in the ImPACT testing of athletes since 2008.  Ms. Puhr received her Master of Health Administration degree from the University of North Florida and her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Troy University.

Hector Mejia, M.D. - Medical Director

Dr. Hector Mejia is an orthopedic surgeon at TOC, specializing in sports medicine.  Dr. Mejia is the Medical Director of The Concussion Center at TOC.  He is a graduate of Florida State University and currently serves as a team physician for the Florida State University Football Team.  Dr. Mejia completed his medical school training at the University of Florida Medical School before completing his residence training at the University of Colorado in Denver.  Dr. Mejia completed his fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) under Dr. Freddie Fu.  As part of his sports medicine training, Dr. Mejia received clinical experience and training under Dr. Michael “Micky” Collins in the clinical treatment and management of sports concussions.  Along with Dr. Burkhart, Dr. Mejia is a Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC).  The Concussion Center is the only facility in the Florida panhandle and southern Georgia with 2 CIC providers.

The Concussion Center at TOC maintains a strong presence throughout North Florida and South Georgia.  Rick Williams, TOC Sports Medicine Outreach Director, along with certified athletic trainers Bryan Johnson, Zacc Sims and Jim Watson have developed educational athletic injury prevention programs in more than 41 schools in 14 Counties.
