TOC Concussion Impact Study

TOC is seeking to introduce a Concussion Management Program (CMP) into the area high schools by the 2010-2011 athletic seasons.  TOC has already initiated the CMP by developing a pilot program with Florida State University High School, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Developmental Research High School and the Millsaps Training Facility, a professional Motocross Training Facility.

The program is centered on the Impact Concussion Software. This software enables TOC to get a neurocognitive baseline of every athlete that participates in the program. To baseline the athlete, he/she has to take a brief 30 minute on-line based exam and the results are stored until they are needed later. If an athlete happens to sustain a head injury, they are subsequently re-tested and the results compared to their baseline. The athlete along with the overseeing physician will then interpret the results to determine when it is safe to return to play.

The impact concussion software is soon to be the new Gold Standard in assisting athletic medical staff’s around the nation take care of athletes with head injuries.  It is currently being used by 18 NFL teams, the National Hockey League, numerous Division I football programs, NASCAR, and other High School, College, Professional and club/recreation programs.

This concussion program is just one more tool TOC will continue to use to assist in protecting our area athletes when it comes to Sports Medicine. To learn more about the TOC Concussion Management Program please contact Davy Young, davy.young@tlhoc.com or visit www.impacttest.com.
