Hip & Groin Injuries
Rupture of the adductor muscles (Groin strain)
Have you:
- A sudden sharp pain in the groin area or adductor muscles?
- Bruising or swelling (this might not occur until a couple of days after the initial injury)
- Inability to contract the adductor muscles?
- A lump or gap in the adductor muscles?
Inflammation of adductor muscles
Have you:
- Pain in the groin at the top of the adductor muscles that can radiate down in to the leg?
- Pain at a specific point on the bone in the groin?
- Pain when you press the legs in together against resistance?
- Have difficulty in running especially sprinting?
Osteitis pubis (inflammation of the pubic bone)
Have you:
- Pain deep in the middle bottom of the groin?
- Pain at this point when you squeeze your knees towards each other against resistance?
- Pain at this point when you kick a ball?
Inflammation of the iliopsoas muscle
Have you:
- Pain in the groin when you lift your knee up to your chest particularly against resistance?
- A sensation of tightness and swelling in the groin?
- A sudden sharp pain in the groin that returns when you try to lift your knee up to your chest?
- A deep pain in the groin when the knee is lifted up against resistance?
- A weakness in lifting your knee up?
- A sudden sharp pain at the front of the hip (top of the rectus femoris) when you sprint?
- Pain at this point during and after exercise.
- Pain when lifting the knee up against resistance?
- Tenderness at the front of the hip (top of rectus femoris)?
- Pain in the groin during exercise?
- Pain in the groin when you cough, sneeze or lift weights?
- Pain in the groin increased by running, sprinting, twisting and turning.
- After training the athlete may be stiff or sore.
- The day after training / playing the athlete may have pain when turning or even getting out of a car.
- Coughing and sneezing may also cause pain.
Rupture of the illiopsoas muscle
Have you:
Rupture or inflammation at the top of the rectus femoris
Have you:
Hernia
Have you:
Gilmore's Groin
